The specials board

I write the specials on the board in the morning. This is my job. I have a specific chalk and a specific way of writing the price and a specific place on the board where the special goes, relative to the Tarrazu, which is always there.

Della edits what I write. Not always, and not dramatically, but she changes a word or two, usually toward something more accurate. I wrote warm and autumnal once and she changed it to dry-process Ethiopia, seasonal. I thought this was a loss of atmosphere. She thought it was a gain of information.

I have started writing more information and less atmosphere. The board is clearer. More people order the special. I am choosing to take credit for this, even though Della's edits are why it is working.
