The freight house
The building was a freight depot for the Bracken Valley and Northern railroad. It was built in 1923, in brick and timber, north-facing so the loading dock stayed cool in summer for the perishables that came through. The railroad stopped running in 1971. The track came up in 1974. The building stayed.
We took it in 2018. The loading dock is the patio now. The freight bay in the back is where Number Nine lives. The front room, which was the clerk's office and the small waiting area, is the bar. Most of the original timber is still up. The brick is original.
People ask if we renovated it. We cleaned it. There is a difference. The bones of the building are what it was, not what we made it. We just put coffee in it.
